Right now I am drinking Seattle Roast coffee from Ah Roma!, a roastery in Lincoln. It is a good grind, very strong and rich. I like it.
It is hard to get the coffee ground right, though. I like to buy it in smaller amounts and grind it at the store, as all I have at home is a small grinder that heats the coffee up more than I want when it grinds it.
But so far, I have only found two or three grocery stores in all of Lincoln that have the right kind of grind.
I like a very fine grind, espresso or even Turkish grind. The coffee comes out stronger with less that way. And I like to use the same coffee for regular drinking and espresso. Regular grind will not make espresso coffee worth a flip since it requires a very fine, almost powder grind.
I also like a very strong, rich coffee, no cream or sugar. And this Seattle Roast from Ah Roma is just what I like.
At this moment, the Super Saver on Cornhusker seems to have both the best grinder and Ah Roma! Coffee. And at about $2 a pound cheaper than Millstone, it is a good deal.
I am drinking some right now, as I write.
Slurp.

different kinds of coffee
Coffee is never mentioned in the Bible. But I still love it. Bacon isn’t either, for that matter. But I love bacon.
I especially love strong black coffee. I usually buy French Roast because it gives the riches flavor. It doesn’t seem to matter which brand I buy, either, except for Folger’s French Roast. For some reason it isn’t very good.
Starbuck’s makes a superior French Roast too, especially if you grind if fine. I like an espresso grind. It really brings out the flavor in the drip coffeemaker. Combine the finely ground French Roast and a cone shaped coffeemaker and it is great.
Colombian Supremo is also a very good coffee, but only if you get it fresh ground. Colombian coffee, even if they call it Colombian Supremo in a can is usually not very good. Maxwell House seems to be the sole exception. Their Colombian Supremo is pretty good and dark tasting.
I did have some Colombian Excelsor once and it was great. All of the flavor of the Colombian beans with a very dark roast. Great coffee.
Right now, I am drinking iced French Roast with a double shot of espresso. That is great. I think I will take some more of that to the revival I am playing guitar at tonight. Good stuff. But not for the faint of heart.

drinking a homemade black eye
I have rediscovered a great way to drink coffee. I used to order this at Starbuck’s when we were in Columbia, MO, at the mall. However, there is no Starbuck’s at the mall here in Lincoln, so I haven’t been drinking.
It was called a Black Eye. It was a double shot of espresso in a large cup of French Roast coffee. It is great tasting and I love it. But I have to go somewhere else besides the mall to get it so I end up not having it at all.
But I discovered the other day that it is phenomenally easy to make a cup of espresso in my own espresso maker and pour it in my cup of coffee. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before, but I didn’t.
Now I can have it as often as I want it.
In fact, I am drinking it right now, making the blood vein walls nice and elastic as I read coffee does the other day. I bet I could stretch those veins around the block by now.
Skoal!

coffee is good for you
I just read an article that said one or two cups of coffee a day will help your blood pressure. Evidently, it will keep your arteries more elastic.
My thought was, YES! Good News! And if two cups help, how much more elastic will my arteries be if I have several, along with some espresso.
When my grandfather had a stroke back in the early 1960’s, his mind kind of went sideways. His thinking got a little convoluted.
He was supposed to eat healthier: not many sweets, other stuff he couldn’t have. I can’t remember it all since it was a while back. But he wanted them. So he worked out a method.
Cake was bad for him, but cottage cheese was good for him. So therefore, if he put cottage cheese on his cake, it made the cake good for him. The mixture of the two cancelled each other out.
He was also supposed to have fruit. He liked strawberries. So therefore, if he had strawberry cake, that was a good for him. And if he put cottage cheese on it, he did himself a massive favor by eating it. After he was through, he felt healthier than before.
Since he was my grandfather and I always considered him a good role model – a hard worker, good husband and father – I decided to adopt that approach when I read this article.
It makes sense to me. If you do not agree with me, you are probably a coffeephobe.
